At Purple Dragon ATL, adults train in authentic Don Jitsu Ryu Karate—the same traditional system taught to children, but with training intensity and expectations suited for adult bodies and schedules.
Beyond physical fitness, our program offers stress relief, mental clarity, and a community of like-minded individuals pursuing personal excellence. The Dojo becomes a place to leave the pressures of daily life behind and focus entirely on self-improvement. Do I need any prior experience to begin training?
No prior experience is required. Our program is designed to meet you exactly where you are. The Private Assessment ensures your training plan is personalized from day one.
Can adults train alongside their children?
Children and adults train in separate, age-appropriate classes. However, many families are members together and share the experience of training at the same Dojo.
What benefits can adults expect from training?
Adults consistently report improved focus, reduced stress, increased strength and flexibility, and greater self-confidence. These results deepen with consistent, long-term training.
How often should I train to see meaningful progress?
We recommend at least two sessions per week. More frequent training accelerates development, but consistency over time matters most. Your assessment will help determine the right starting frequency.
I'm not in shape. Can I still start?
Absolutely. You don’t need to be fit to start—you get fit by training. We meet every student where they are and progress at an appropriate pace. Many of our adult students started with no athletic background and have transformed their fitness through consistent training.
What's the difference between Adult Warriors and Fitness Kickboxing?
Adult Warriors is traditional Don Jitsu Ryu Karate with belt progression, sparring, and the full martial arts curriculum. Fitness Kickboxing & Yoga is purely fitness-focused—high-energy cardio workouts using kickboxing techniques plus yoga for flexibility, with no contact or martial arts ranking. Many members do both.
I'm in my 40s/50s/60s. Am I too old?
You’re not too old. We have students across all age ranges training successfully. The beauty of martial arts is that technique and wisdom can compensate for raw athleticism. We modify training intensity as needed while maintaining the integrity of the art.
What should I wear to my first class?
Athletic clothing that allows full range of motion—workout pants or shorts and a t-shirt. Once enrolled, you’ll receive your official Purple Dragon uniform for karate classes. For Fitness Kickboxing & Yoga, regular athletic wear is always appropriate. Bring water and come ready to work.
